Terms of membership

Version 4. Effective 17 October 2026.

In short: you pay £1. You get the next member number, your handle on the public wall and a certificate. Your number decides your title, and bringing people in earns a rank. Titles and ranks are decoration and have no value. That is all you get, now or ever. It is a joke, and the number is real.

1. Definitions

1.1 "Club" means The One Pound Club. "Site" means onepound.club and every page under it. "Membership" means the digital item described in clause 2. "Handle" means the name you choose for the wall. "We", "us" and "our" mean the operator identified in the legal information at the end of these Terms. "You" means the person buying a Membership.

1.2 By paying for a Membership you agree to these Terms. Please read them, and our Privacy notice, before you pay.

2. What a Membership is

2.1 A Membership is a novelty digital item consisting only of:

• (a) a member number, allocated in the order payments are confirmed;
• (b) the display of your Handle and member number on the Site's public wall and on a member page;
• (c) a certificate image you can download and share;
• (d) a title that depends on your member number, as set out in clause 2.4; and
• (e) a rank that depends on how many members join through your invite link, as set out in clause 2.5.

2.2 A Membership gives you nothing else. In particular, and without limiting clause 2.1, it does not give you:

• (a) any right, title, interest, ownership, share, vote, profit, dividend or claim in or against the Club, us or anyone else;
• (b) any goods, services, access, events, meetings, discounts, rewards, privileges or future benefits of any kind, other than the decorative titles and ranks described in clauses 2.4 and 2.5;
• (c) any monetary, investment, resale or collectable value. A Membership is not a financial product, security, investment, cryptoasset, non-fungible token (NFT), gift card, voucher or store credit;
• (d) any chance of winning anything. The Club is not a lottery, prize draw, competition or game of chance, and there are no prizes;
• (e) any right to choose, change, reserve or transfer a member number; or
• (f) any licence to use our name, logo or content, other than sharing your own certificate.

2.3 A Membership is personal to you. It cannot be sold, transferred, assigned or exchanged, and we will not buy it back. A member number is never given to anyone else, including after a refund.

2.4 Titles. Your title depends only on your member number: Founder (numbers 1 to 100), Charter (101 to 1,000), Pioneer (1,001 to 10,000) and Member (10,001 and above). Your title is fixed when your payment is confirmed. Numbers are allocated in the order payments are confirmed, so if the last number in a title is taken while you are paying, you will receive the next number and the next title, and you have no claim to a particular number or title. A title is a decoration shown on the wall, your member page and your certificate. It has no value and no privileges attached.

2.5 Invites and ranks. Every member has an invite link (onepound.club/?r= followed by their member number). When someone pays for a Membership after using your link, they are recorded as having joined through you, and their certificate and member page say "Invited by" followed by your Handle. Your rank depends only on how many such members there are: Associate (1), Director (3), Chairman (10) and Life President (25). A member counts only once their payment is confirmed and stops counting if their payment is refunded. A rank is a decoration shown on the wall, your member page and your certificate. Nothing is paid, credited, discounted or given to you, or to anyone, for inviting people, and you receive no part of what anyone else pays. We may remove a rank gained by abuse, such as fake or automated payments.

3. Price and payment

3.1 The price is £1, including any taxes. It is charged once. There is no subscription.

3.2 Payment is taken by Stripe, either on Stripe's own pages or through Stripe's Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons on our Site. We never see or store your card details.

3.3 A contract is formed when Stripe confirms your payment and the Site allocates your member number.

4. Supply and your right to cancel

4.1 Your Membership is digital content supplied immediately when payment is confirmed.

4.2 Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you would normally have 14 days to cancel. By paying, you expressly ask us to supply your Membership straight away and acknowledge that you lose your right to cancel once it has been supplied.

4.3 This does not affect your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If your Membership is not supplied, is not as described, or you are charged in error or more than once, email us and we will put it right or refund you.

5. Handles

5.1 Handles must be 1 to 20 characters long and use only letters, numbers, dots and underscores.

5.2 You must not use a Handle that is offensive, unlawful, defamatory or infringes anyone's rights; that is anyone's real name without their permission; that contains personal information; or that impersonates us, Stripe, Cloudflare or any other person or organisation.

5.3 You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display your Handle on the Site, member pages and certificates for as long as the Club exists.

5.4 Handles are unique and first come, first served. NateDog, nate_dog and Nate.Dog count as the same name. If the Handle you choose is taken in the moments before your payment is confirmed, we will still give you your member number, with a close variant of the name (for example, kate_47). Email us if you would like it changed.

5.5 We may remove or hide a Handle that breaks clause 5.2, or that someone reasonably complains about. If we do, we may refund your £1. Your member number is not reallocated.

6. The Site

6.1 We aim to keep the Site available but do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or available at any particular time. We may change its design, pause new memberships or stop operating the Club.

6.2 If we stop operating the Club, we will try, but do not promise, to keep a read-only copy of the wall online.

6.3 You must not interfere with the Site, attempt to access it by automated means, test stolen or unauthorised payment cards, or try to get around its bot check or rate limits.

7. Liability

7.1 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.

7.2 Subject to clause 7.1, our total liability to you in connection with a Membership is limited to the amount you paid for it.

7.3 We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including failures of Stripe, Cloudflare or your bank.

8. Complaints

Please email hello@onepound.club with your member number. We aim to reply within 14 days.

9. General

9.1 We may update these Terms. The Terms in force when you paid apply to your Membership.

9.2 If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force.

9.3 These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
